Why Mattress Cleaning Matters

You spend roughly one-third of your life on your mattress. Over time, it accumulates dead skin cells, dust mites, sweat, and other allergens. A dirty mattress can trigger allergies, asthma, skin irritation, and poor sleep quality. Regular cleaning extends your mattress life and protects your health.

Weekly Maintenance

Strip all bedding and wash sheets, pillowcases, and mattress protectors in hot water (at least 60°C) to kill dust mites. Vacuum the mattress surface using a upholstery attachment, paying special attention to seams and edges where dust accumulates. Rotate the mattress 180 degrees if its not a pillow-top design.

Deep Cleaning Every 3-6 Months

Sprinkle baking soda generously over the entire mattress surface. Let it sit for at least 4 hours — overnight is better. The baking soda absorbs moisture, neutralizes odors, and has mild antibacterial properties. Vacuum thoroughly to remove all the baking soda.

Dealing with Stains

For fresh stains, blot (never rub) with a clean cloth and cold water. Mix equal parts water and white vinegar in a spray bottle, lightly mist the stain, and blot dry. For stubborn stains, use a small amount of mild dish soap with cold water. Always let the mattress dry completely before remaking the bed.

Using a Mattress Protector

The single best thing you can do for your mattress is use a quality waterproof protector. It prevents spills, sweat, and bodily fluids from reaching the mattress itself. A good protector is breathable, waterproof, and machine washable. Replace your protector every 2-3 years.

When to Replace Your Mattress

Most mattresses should be replaced every 7-10 years. Signs it is time: visible sagging or indentations, you wake up with aches and pains, allergies worsen at night, you can feel the springs through the surface, or the mattress makes noise when you move.
